Q: Is Linux on your ps3 safe? A: Yes, its a safe and supported by sony. Q: Can installing linux mess up your ps3? A: linux is not allowed to touch the Sony OS and runs in virtualization. So no it cant mess up your ps3. Q: What does it cost? A: Its free Q: Is it difficult to switch between the two? A: I hope after seeing the video you realize its not. Q: Do I need a keyboard and mouse? A: Yes you’ll need a USB keyboard & Mouse. Q: Do I need a HDTV? A: No but for best results a HDTV or widescreen computer monitor is recommended. Q: Does wifi work? A: wifi works fine in yellow dog linux. Q: Can I use the my 6A and or DS3? A: Yes both are supported by yellow dog linux. Q: Can I use WINE on PS3 linux? @iNoScopeZz Do you have firmware 3.15 or lower. update 3.21 removes the other os feature.

@Soliqui yes it should work with no set up required. I only own one DS3 so I use a DS2 via USB as the second controller.

I got it working with a emulator for snes and i can use my ps3 controller works great. But is it also possible to use a playstation 2 controller via usb? I have the converter that is needed to use it for ps3. If it is possible how do I activate it?

@kc9gpj yes it did and yes it will. If you still have fw 3.15 or lower then you can still install linux on your ps3.

@Askar450 .. well you could install an emulator (like qemu, SDLMAME) for older consoles and play ol’ skool games just for the kicks.. or browse the internet.. Peace !

I installed yellow dog, And got it running. But it boots into linux and i dont have the PS3 os anymore. Any suggestions?
you can install linux on your ps3 and do all that very easy. you can get help on how to install linux on ps3 from ps3magic(dot)org or just type in google ps3 magic you will see. i posted a video response on what you can do with your PS# runing linux on it.
I recently follwed along with your video on installing YellowDog Linux and it all was very helpful, the only problem was when i typed “install_ps3_720p on the kboot” my tv went blank and nothing happened afterward i dont know what to do. Now i am stuck at that page where you type install_ps3_720p and i cant go on from there. It is the last step so im pissed, and would really appreciate if you could help.
