I think the authors made a huge mistake, because a huge nerd like Sheldon would never use a out-of-box linux, when he can do it all himself:P For example: Gentoo or even LFS
but never the less great, that he mentioned a linux operating system!
I’d just like to interject. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
A real super douche nerd would actually scoff at Ubuntu for being “too easy”. Personally, I think it’s great but the show doesn’t seems to be portraying the stereotype properly. :O
Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

Not even Sheldon is smart enough to understand Gentoo…
Something that annoys me is that I recall him saying something along the lines with “Windows 7 is more user friendly, I don’t like that” and now he uses Ubuntu? Isn’t Ubuntu one of the most user friendly distros?
Impresionante!!! No me esperaba un comentario como ese!!!
yo también quiero ver el escritorio de sheldon
Awesome!!! I did not expect a comment like that!!!
I also want to see the desktop sheldon
@cinger7
The script writers aren’t skillful enough to make Sheldon use Debian or BSD.
I love Sheldon’s way to talk!!! Penny….Penny….Penny…when he knocks the door!!! XD XD XD
Leonard seems like he would be the more likely ubuntu user. Sheldon always gave me a debian or bsd vide.
i gotta send a thank you letter to chuck lorre!

My favorite as well, I’m using it as we speak.
He seemed more like a Gentoo fan…
really disappointing : in an other episode he said he prefered vista to seven which is too userfriendly. I would have guess he uses gentoo or smth
